Back in action

After a somewhat lengthy hiatus, oleskiw.ca is back.  Also, since February 2017 I am employed as a Postdoctoral Research Associate for Howard Hughes Medical Institute in the Laboratory for Computational Vision at New York University’s Center for Neural Science under the supervision of Eero Simoncelli.  I am also advised by Tony Movshon, Principal Investigator of NYU’s Visual Neuroscience Laboratory.

Divisive inhibition via input timescale

We have some exciting results from a project looking at mechanisms of gain modulation in spiking neurons. I’ll be presenting this work at cosyne next week! Poster and abstract are on the CV.

Spectral receptive fields do not explain tuning for boundary curvature in V4

Our work on SRF models of V4 shape tuning has been accepted by the Journal of Neurophysiology!  Stay tuned for a preprint.

Computational Neuroscience Trainee

I have been selected as a trainee under the new Computational Neuroscience Training Grant at the University of Washington. This scholarship will provide funding for a Ph.D. program through 2011 and 2012.

Research Scientist at the University of Washington

I have begun research at the Washington National Primate Research Center under the codirection of Prof. Anitha Pasupathy and Dr. Wyeth Bair.  This position is funded by the ShapeLab in the Department of Biological Structure at the University of Washington, Seattle.

M.Sc. Completion

I have sucessfully defended a Master’s thesis through the Department of Computer Science at York University entitled On the Perceptual Organization and Computational Representation of Natural Planar Shape.  All degree requirements were completed on November 30th, 2010.

New Publication: On Growth and Formlets

Our research into planar shape has lead to a publication at CVPR 2010!  You can check out the article in the cv section.
